The oldest part of the chậteau was built as a winehouse in 1668. From a height of ten meters, the grapes were dropped into the [manmade] caves below, where there were two wine presses. The first owner was Phiippe Barateau, a lawyer who defended convicted protestants by means of the Réligion Prétendue Réformée, and opened his house to them. A century later the middle part of the house was added. Around 1850 the third part was built, which has noticeably more spacious rooms and higher ceilings.
